So the other night I was preparing Grey for a bath. My usual routine is to lay him on the bed, get him down to his diaper, go turn on the bath, and hang out with him for a few minutes as the tub gets right. As I laid with him on the bed waiting for the tub, we did our usual thing and he grabbed my finger, squeezed it, and was just being a baby - but it made me think.

What about Superman?

Good Weekend

So let’s talk weekend first. Friday evening the wife and I decided to head out to Destin and purchase a few items and have dinner. This was mostly a strategic move so we could stay around the house on Saturday and Sunday. Grey was fantastic and we both really had a good time. I rocked my David Nasser t-shirt that is black with just plain text of “i love my wife.” I always love wearing that out and seeing people’s reactions. Some have a sympathetic face, thinking that my wife is making me wear it or perhaps it’s penance from some sort of counseling session like I am a cheater. Others you can tell just see it as ‘awwww, that’s cute’. And then some I think really get it: in today’s society, it’s so strange/boring/bizarre for someone to genuinely love their wife, not want to look around or cheat, and care about their marriage. I digress.

We had a great night out and it was a really solid ‘family moment’ for us. Just beautiful. Saturday morning was a ridiculous shoulder workout with a buddy. The rest of the day was cleaning up the house, relaxing, and checking into helping the wife start a small business.

And Sunday was Father’s Day… and that’s where I was blown away.

I’ve been drinking the water. Trust me. Today alone I’ve killed a little over a hundred ounces. I haven’t read today. I am about to write for the next hour or so.

A more thorough update coming tomorrow. Now… TO WRITE!

Jun 16, 2011

Big workout tomorrow morning again. I know I am going to get annihilated; however, I know that I will do quite well in the water category tomorrow. The last few days have been great with the family. I have about an hour every morning with Grey that is just us two. It’s fantastic quality one-on-one time that is starting to pay off because he’s really beginning to recognize me, etc. I read to him some mornings, some times I read just to myself, and other mornings we kick it and talk man stuff.

I need to FINISH. THE. SHORT. SCRIPT. It’s just stupid (old Spencer would have said retarded but I’m trying to grow up a bit) that I haven’t finished this thing yet. I think it has to do with the passion you have for a project. I just need to finish this thing so I can get to a story I really want to tell.

Tonight, the Bruins play. I’m hoping to get a big fat W for a gift. Go B’s.

So I’ll try my best to tackle the ‘when to stop reading a book’ subject. A few years ago I had a night job working in a warehouse by myself. Most nights, I completed my work early and had several hours before my shift ended. Being a reader, I found this a glorious situation. I remember going to the library one day and grabbing a book by Dale Brown called Act of War. I’ve never read Dale Brown before but I like the action fiction stuff. It is, to this day, one of the three books tied for title of Worst Book I’ve Read. Name anything involved in telling a story and it was terrible in this book. Look up the reviews on Amazon; it’s not just me. As I sat there at my night job, I kept forcing myself to finish reading it. I couldn’t not finish it.

Can’t write. Just watched the worst ending in hockey history with my Bruins on the losing end. What an absolute joke. I don’t want to start with curse words because I really don’t think I’ll stop.

Beyond pissed. Good-bye Saturday. Die.

Yesterday was a doozy. We had a production meeting in the morning and, unfortunately, it was one dealing with ‘realignment’. This is a polite term to say, “There are X of you here and there are less than X jobs available.” All of us must now reapply and hope for the best. I’m not going to worry about it - I’ll simply do my best and hope it works. It’s just an unfortunate necessity for my company, well, for every company in today’s business world. I completely understand the situation and from speaking to the leadership, it’s not like it’s fun for them either.

My run didn’t end well. Why? Well, because I’m an idiot. I decided to run in my new shoes WITHOUT SOCKS. So after about a mile, both feet were getting big blisters at the Achilles tendon. I walked and jogged the last mile with the shoes off the heel, like sandals.

I’m becoming a bigger and bigger fan of getting to bed before 10. The goal is to get in bed at 9PM. Before you say You are one old man I will let you know that I was always an old man. The only all-nighters I had in college dealt with being on a film set; I just have never been a night owl. In high school my friends would jokingly call me Cinderella because they knew I’d be done by midnight. I believe some of them even took bets during the homecomings and proms as to when I would fall asleep. Grey is being put down for bed at 7:30 or 8 so I won’t miss quality time with him. It also gives me less excuses and better focus to write at 6AM.

Something I’ll write more about tomorrow - when to stop reading. I’m currently reading a book that is terrible. What to do?

Tonight is a writing night. Need to finish this short script. Now.
